Team Humpday’s Safety Tips
Team Humpday are committed to creating a safe space for you to form meaningful connections online and IRL.
Whilst we have inbuilt features to help keep you as safe as possible, it is of course pivotal that you exercise good judgment and extra caution when meeting someone for the first time.
The Humpday team has put together some safety tips and we hope you keep them in mind when using the Humpday app and when out IRL dating.
Keep your personal information top secret!
Avoid including photos at specific locations you may visit often. That park you jog at alone every morning at 6am - maybe not!
Avoid using specific details on your profile such as the exact location of where you work. Instead, we suggest using generic work locations such as “Startup” or “Accounting firm”.
We strongly advise you to not disclose personal information such as contact details, driver’s license, home or work address etc until you feel extremely confident you can trust sharing them with that person.
If you are a parent, avoid sharing photos or information about your children.
Keep your financial information confidential and be cautious about transferring money.
Never share any bank or payment information such as credit card details or mother’s maiden name. If you are asked, please report this immediately to Humpday directly in the Humpday App via Report and Block in Chat Settings or by emailing hihello@humpdaydating.com
Even after trust is established, we strongly advise against transferring money and especially to someone you have never met
Take care when stepping out IRL!
Humpday has purpose built a safer model of online dating by encouraging our community to attend dates and events in a public setting that can be booked in app. So, if you do choose to meet up with someone by another means, we strongly encourage you to do so in a public setting.
A voice or video call can be a good idea prior to meeting to ensure you feel comfortable moving to IRL.
It is always wise to notify a close friend or family member of who you are meeting and where and when exactly your date is. A text to say you got home safely is always appreciated too!
We recommend organising your own transport to and from the date in order to keep your home address private and ensure you can leave at your own discretion.
During the date, ensure you keep your phone, wallet or anything else containing personal information on you at all times.
Never leave your drink unattended and only accept drinks served directly from the bartender in front of you.
Know and respect your drug and alcohol limits and remove yourself from the date if you are feeling pressured to consume more than you would safely like to enjoy.
Trust your gut! If you are feeling unsafe or something just feels a little “off”, it is more than ok to leave early!
If someone’s behaviour IRL does not abide by Humpday’s Community Guidelines, please report this immediately to Humpday directly in the Humpday App via Report and Block in Chat Settings or by emailing hihello@humpdaydating.com. Of course, if you are at a Humpday event, please notify the Humpday team or venue staff present.
Sexual health and consent matters.
Communication is essential in relationships and especially when it comes to sexual intercourse. It is important to have conversations around sexual health prior to intercourse and in fact, it is illegal in many Australian states to expose someone to an STI, without disclosing first. It may be an awkward conversation to have, but know you are not alone and it is nothing to be ashamed of!
Prevent transmission of STIs by always using a condom, regardless if birth control practices are already in place.
Some STIs can present without symptoms and therefore it is important to have regular testing to ensure you are not unwillingly spreading them. It is more than ok to ask someone to get tested prior to sexual intercourse. Hey you could even get tested together - cute date idea?!
Use Humpday’s Report and Block Feature
Humpday has a team of moderators and internal automated systems to ensure the safety of our Humpday community, but we always appreciate your help!
If you ever notice someone behaving in a way that violates our Community Guidelines, please use the Report and Block function which can be found via the Chat Settings. Alternatively, you may email Humpday at hihello@humpdaydating.com. Please note, the reported user will never know who reported their account.
