Embrace your selfish era this Valentine’s Day
How to Celebrate Valentine's Day as a Single Person
💘💘
64% of single Australians admit to feeling more self conscious about not having a partner in the lead up to Valentine’s Day.
The constant reminders on social media and stores around you, don't make it an easy topic to avoid.
However, here at Humpday, we think celebrating Valentine's Day as a single person can be a wonderful opportunity for self-reflection, self-love, and embracing your independence!
Here’s a guide on how to spend the season of love, as a single:
Self-Love Spa Day
We often forget to take care of ourselves amidst the rush of daily life. So treating yourself to a pampering spa day at home is the perfect segway into self-care. Run a relaxing bath, use your favourite skincare products, and indulge in some self-care. Consider playing soothing music and lighting candles for an extra calming atmosphere.
2. Cook your favourite meal
Prepare your favourite meal, that you love but rarely have the time to make. Whether it's a gourmet experiment or a cherished comfort dish, relish the cooking process without any time constraints. Create a sensory experience with music and ambiance. This solo culinary celebration is a reminder to find joy in the simple pleasures of a delicious, personally crafted meal.
3. Solo adventure day
Take yourself on an adventure! Visit a museum, go for a hike, or explore a part of your city you've never been to. It's a chance to create memories and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself, fostering a sense of independence and appreciation for the beauty of solitude. Embrace the freedom of doing things on your own terms.
4. Friendship Celebration
With ‘galentines’ becoming as popular as ‘valentines’, celebrate the day with your friends who are also single! Plan a virtual or in-person gathering with games, good food, a few drinks and shared laughter. Celebrate the bond of friendship.
5. Fitness fun
Engage in a physical activity that you enjoy. It could be a solo dance session, a long hike, or a yoga class. Physical activity releases endorphins, promoting a positive mood. You can bring along your friend’s to make it a fun activity you can do together. Taking this time to focus on your body and strength, it will only make you more grateful for it!
6. Reflect and set goals
Take some time to reflect on your personal goals, aspirations, and achievements. Set new goals for the upcoming year (January is a trial month) and acknowledge the progress you've made. Whether it be relationship goals or personal, it’s important to know what you're working towards and the baby steps to get you there.
7. Mindfulness and Meditation
Practice mindfulness and meditation to centre yourself. Apps and guided sessions can help you focus on the present moment, promoting relaxation and self-awareness. In this loud and racing world, it can be hard to find little moments of peace. Take this time to nurture your mind. Unlike in Eat, Pray, Love, you don’t need to fly to Bali to do this (unless you want to), find a quiet space in your home to find your zen.
8. Parties and Events
Explore local Valentine's Day (or anti-Valentine's Day) parties, either in-person or virtual, for a chance to meet new people and expand your social circle. Look for gatherings specifically designed for singles, offering activities like themed games or speed dating. Keep an eye on social media, event platforms, or community boards for announcements. These events provide a lighthearted and enjoyable way to spend Valentine's Day as a single person.
Remember, Valentine's Day is an opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms, and that includes self-love. Embrace the day as a chance to appreciate and care for the most important person in your life – you!
